The Granite Belt turned on perfect winter weather for this year's Long O which made for good running conditions for competitors. Those who turned up early were greeted by a steam train carrying tourists to Wallangarra – something you don't see at most orienteering events!
With the Hard 1 – 4 and the Moderate courses having a score event then multiple loops, it was quite a technical challenge to get it all organised and compatible with Sportident. There were a few technical glitches and we thank everyone for their patience while we sorted these out. Particular thanks to Rob Crosato for his assistance with processing the results of this complex event.
Thank you to the Range Runners team for providing plenty of food for hungry orienteers after their run. It was much appreciated by everyone.
The combined efforts of BBB members and Felicity Crosato made the control collection afterwards so much easier and we were just finishing the packing up when the steam train whistled past on its journey back to Warwick.
Our thanks, also, to our six different landowners for allowing us access to their properties for this event. It was a major effort to recombine all of the Brooklands Paddock, Charlies Paddock and Rosenthal Creek maps again – something that has not happened since the original Brooklands map was made back in 1999.
There were quite a few tired and sore bodies at the end of the event but we hope they all enjoyed their extended day in the bush.
