Over 150 people participated in what turned out to be the first local orienteering event for 2013. The evening was warm but at least 15 degrees cooler than the previous Friday. The flat terrain of the new map of the Colonel Light Gardens suburb was made more interesting by the dirt lane ways that criss-crossed behind the houses, where controls were well placed by new course setter, Aiden Sullivan, to make for interesting route choice on all courses. All competitors returned to the finish successfully after their explorations and many chose to have dinner near the start/finish area which provided play equipment for the younger generation and shade/green grass for a pleasant recollection of what should have/could have been. Thanks to the McCarthy, Lim and Sullivan families for organising and running the event.
